The brief
The BWA serves beginners and experts, and much of what it offers is reference material: species, breed standards, husbandry, events, local contacts. The website had to hold all of that in a structure people can find their way around, and still feel welcoming to someone who has just bought their first pair of ducks.
It also had to act as a shop window for membership. Joining is the point of the homepage.
Our approach
We organised the site around what members ask for: a categorised waterfowl directory, a marketplace with members' adverts, a breeder directory and breed standards, an events calendar covering the Champion Waterfowl Exhibition and photo competitions, and practical husbandry guides on housing, incubation, first aid and predator control. A blog carries news and guidance.
The homepage message is friendly and inclusive, beginners and experts welcome, and the palette borrows from the water: teal and blue, with waterfowl photography doing most of the talking. Donations are taken through PayPal, and the site is built on WordPress with the Elementor page builder.
“Enjoy waterfowl? Then we are for you.”
