Website design for a social enterprise: Miniature Donkeys for Wellbeing

We designed and built the website for Miniature Donkeys for Wellbeing, a social enterprise that takes therapy donkeys to care homes, community groups and events, with booking, sponsorship, donations and a shop in one place.

The brief

Mini Donks has six miniature donkeys and a simple purpose: bringing them to people, from care settings to community events across South Norfolk, Suffolk, East Cambridgeshire and North Essex. The website has to serve several very different visitors at once: a care-home manager arranging a visit, a supporter sponsoring a donkey, an event organiser, someone who simply wants to donate.

Each of them needs a clear next step, and none of them should have to read past what isn't for them.

Our approach

We split the site by purpose rather than by department. Booking a visit, sponsoring an individual donkey, donating and buying merchandise each have their own route from the menu, so a visitor never has to guess where to go. The donkeys are the personalities, so each has a place of its own on the sponsorship pages.

The site runs on WordPress with WooCommerce for the shop, so donations, sponsorship and merchandise stay in the team's own hands. The look is pastoral and warm: real photographs of the donkeys with the people they visit, and the National Lottery Community Fund's support kept visible in the header.

“We bring our donkeys to you.”
